AMMRL: labeling NMR tubes summary

In response to my recent question, the most often recommended product was
Sigma-Aldrich NMR tube labels, p/n Z220574. The second most often
recommended was a wire label made by Brady. Brady makes various kinds of
wire labels, including the one sold by Aldrich as an NMR tube label. That
specific kind lists for $53.40 on the Sigma-Aldrich website and $44.75 on
Brady's website (as p/n B-292), though I think quite a few organizations
receive discounts off Sigma-Aldrich list prices.

There were a variety of other suggestions, including the Brother P-Touch
desktop label printer, various mechanisms for compelling user groups to
label their tubes by hand, or on the back side of the transaction, simply
selling abandoned dirty tubes in-house for $2 each.

There were also various expressions of despair about ever getting people
to do in any consistent way something that was so simple and so obviously
in their self interest to do. I fear that managing an NMR facility does
not, in general, lead to an optimistic assessment of human nature. Let's
talk about that at ENC sometime, but in the meantime, don't forget to take
that Zoloft.
