Hi, I've just intalled VNMRJ2.2D on one of our Inova spectrometers, and
I'm trying to figure out the billing. I've got it set to bill logins, but
it seems to also bill users for remote logins (the way most of my users
retrieve their data for offline processing back in their labs). I've read
a little bit in the manual, and it's generating billing entries from the
vnmr1/adm/last.txt file. There's also the vnmr1/adm/macrorecords.txt file
which seems to only track logins at the console computer; unfortunately,
it records time in a weird format which my IT guy says is "seconds since
the dawn of UNIX time". I guess I can take the difference btwn start and
done values and divide by 3600 to convert to hrs., but then I'd have to
correlate w/ the last.txt file to have something to tie the times to
actual dates of use. Boy, I'm starting to miss vnmr_accounting on the old
Suns. Has anyone come up w/ a way to get billing output that looks more
like the vnmr_accounting software? (I get the feeling that I'm just
running into the old "A PC isn't really a true networked workstation"
issue.)
Thanks,
Sean
