Ph.D. Physical/Physical Organic Chemists/Material Scientists
---
The Merck Research Laboratories in Rahway, New Jersey, has a position
available in the Early Development Physical Measurements Laboratory, part of
the Center for Physicochemical Characterization. The research conducted in
the Laboratory involves the study of the properties of pharmaceutical
solids, in support of the development of synthetic methods, isolations, and
formulation. Thermal analysis techniques, particle size measurement
techniques, wet chemical techniques such as titrations and solubility
measurements, x-ray powder diffraction, optical, infrared, and scanning
electron microscopy, and solid-state nmr are some of the techniques applied
in the Laboratory. Experience in the application of solid state nmr
spectroscopy is a special interest for this search, although the successful
applicant will apply all of the techniques in use in the Laboratory to solve
the complex, multifaceted problems faced in drug development.
The successful candidate will have an excellent academic record with
demonstrated skills in one or more of the areas of interest in the
Laboratory, or will have expertise in a new technology that may be applied
to the analysis of pharmaceutical materials. Strong oral and written
communication skills are required.
Merck Research Laboratories, a division of Merck & Co., Inc., is located
approximately 25 miles from New York City. Our salaries, benefits and growth
potential are excellent.
