Summary: Bruker Avance II and Varian Direct Drive FID formats

Thanks to Dave L, Phil, Woody, Dave R., Rolf and Rich for providing information on
this topic.

I do not have a definitive answer on the Bruker format yet.

Varian are automatically converting the high speed non-quadrature data to
standard base-band complex (quadrature) data before storing on disk. These
data can be processed with standard software, including SpinWorks. The data are
in floating point format, but a flag in the file (block?) header indicates this.

I did notice one thing in VNMR data from LINUX systems. At least some
data were observed where the file header claimed that the data were 16 bit
(dp='n'), which was incorrect, but the block header correctly had the data
as 32 bit (dp='y'). SpinWorks used to look at the file header for format
information, but as of version 2.5 looks at the block header.

Can anyone out there check the new Varian Direct Drive format with
SpinWorks 2.5 or 2.5.1? Rich has checked that it does work with
2.4.

Thanks
-Kirk
