Research Center
POSITION TITLE: Research Chemist -
Spectroscopist
POSITION OVERVIEW: This individual will be working in
the Materials Science and Characterization (MSC) Group providing
spectroscopy, particularly FTNMR and other related spectroscopic
techniques (such as FTIR and UV/VIS analyses) as well as other
analytical support to Avery Research Center (ARC) and Divisions.
REPORTS TO: Spectroscopy Functional
Team Leader, MSC
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Conduct analyses in spectroscopy area, particularly FTNMR
techniques (solution, multinuclear and multidimensional FTNMR
experiments), and other spectroscopy techniques such as FTIR and UV/VIS
* Provide timely support to product development projects and
divisions
* Apply the skills in spectroscopic techniques to assist in
problem solving
* Interpret data and write technical reports
* Communicate with research center and divisional scientists on
analytical results
* Develop test methods with spectroscopy techniques
* Conduct spectroscopy training to team members, temps/students
as needed
* Maintain existing spectroscopic instruments and evaluate new
instrumentation to support new product development and problem-solving
needs
* The successful candidate will work closely with Research Center
scientists and divisional scientists to provide technical support for R
& D and solve problems related to manufacturing and customer complaints
* The individual will also have the responsibility to conduct
research related to new product development
QUALIFICATIONS:
* M. S. or Ph. D. equivalent in Chemistry, Polymer Science,
Materials Science or related discipline
* Academic research (thesis or published papers) in applied
spectroscopy
* 2 -5 years related industrial experience in a Material Testing
environment with proven track record in applied spectroscopy techniques,
especially FTNMR
* Knowledge and hands-on experience of spectroscopy techniques,
especially FTNMR
* Knowledge of polymers/coating and polymer/coating
characterization
* Effective written and oral communications
* Excellent computer skills and knowledge in programming
* Excellent problem-solving skills
* High levels of motivation, initiative and energy
* Able to work independently as well as in a team
* Ability to interact effectively with both internal and
external customers
