Varian unity500, lost connection between host and acquisition computers:

Hey All,
I've got a unity system that has lost communications between the host
and acquisition computers. When booting the host, acqproc is called, we
get a "initHAL( ) error, /dev/rsh0 isn't responding or doesn't exist."
The /dev/rsh0 is present and configured correctly. We get roughly the
same results when running the "setacq" routine from the command line.
Running "HAL diag" into the acq. terminal, no errors are apparent, same
for "ACQ diag". We are in the process of checking voltages from the
power supplies and will check voltages on the digital cards next.
Has anyone seen this before? What did you do to fix it? Varian has
suggested sending an engineer but we aren't covered for that expense.
