Hi there AMMRLers,
Thank you to the nearly 20 of you who responded to my query. About half
of the respondents administer the MNova site license themselves, while
half have their department or campus IT doing it. It seems like it is
fairly easy to administer and doesn't require much computer space, so
likely not much of a difference either way. However, if the server goes
down or unexpected things happen, then it could be a headache and a
bunch of work for the administrator.
After thoroughly reviewing all my responses, and being subject to my
campus IT folks, I've decided to just go ahead and have them deal with
administering our new campus license. It took about 10 days or so for
them to figure it all out, so a bit of a drag and frustration waiting
for this to happen. And back and forth e-mails with them thinking we
should have gotten a floating license instead, we're now all set with
our 100 seat campus licenses (not floating). The one caveat is that
they don't want some random UVM students installing the software, so I
had to provide them with a list of approved students (ones that I've
trained on the NMRs) for clearance. Even though this really could be
checked with MlicAdmin (from MNova), we now have students approved on
the front end and on the back end. But it's not going to be much of an
issue anyway, since we're way below the 100 seat limit.
In reading your responses and looking at MNova's description of their
various licenses, I learned that there's "campus licenses", typically
100 or 150 seats (or perhaps even more in some cases), where the up to
100 (or 150) users can install MNova and use it any time they wish, as
long as their laptop can 'see' the campus license server at least every
90 days. And the other flavor of mass licensing is "concurrent
licenses", where an unlimited number of folks can install MNova, but
only a certain number of users can be actively using the software at any
given time.
Thank you to Yongbo, Ian V., Letitia, Dee, Glenn, Dean, Dave, George,
Marcus, Johannes, Ralph, Oliver, Ken, Rich, John, Ivan, Eugenio, Pat and
Ian M. for taking the time to respond to my query. Your responses were
very useful and informative!
Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving break!
Cheers,
Monika
