"Insert the next sample as usual, and lift it again."

With all due respect, I find that to be terrible advice. There are many ways to retrieve an empty spinner, but a method that could potentially break a tube inside the magnet does not rank high on my list.

Just get a wooden dowel slightly larger than your typical tube od. Sand down the end a bit to make a cone shape. Stick the dowel down the upper barrel, line it up with the hole of the empty spinner to plug the 'leak', and out comes the spinner. You may have to up the eject pressure a bit to overcome the added weight of the dowel.

Note I have only tried that on a Varian spinner with the o-ring on the inside, but I don't see why it wouldn't work with other spinners.
