The UCLA Brain Injury Research Center (BIRC) is proud to announce the
Marilyn and Austin Anderson Postdoctoral Fellowship Award.
Deadline for Applications: January 3, 2011
 
Position Description & Requirements: This is a two-year postdoctoral
fellowship. Applicants must be no more than three years post their PhD/MD or
equivalent. The candidate that is awarded the position will conduct basic
and/or clinical research in the area of adult and developmental traumatic
brain injury, with ample opportunities for translational research. The
BIRC is currently seeking highly motivated individuals with extensive
overlapping experience in one of the following areas:

. Cerebral (neuronal, glial) metabolism (injury effects on metabolic
pathways and/or use of metabolic substrates as a therapeutic option).

. Mechanisms of brain plasticity (cellular, molecular or
functional/neurobehavioral).

Applicants should have experience in one or more of the following techniques
used by the BIRC or any other techniques that have proven useful for study
in either of these broad categories: HPLC; GCMS; high field NMR
spectroscopy; clinical and/or experimental MRI, PET, CT; cerebral
microdialysis; neurochemistry and/or neuropharmacology; molecular and
cellular biology; in vivo or slice electrophysiology; stem cell biology;
exercise physiology. A strong background in experimental design, analytical
and statistical skills is highly desirable. Previous experience in clinical
or experimental TBI is not required, but preferred.

Ph.D., Grace Griesbach, Ph.D., Neil Harris, Ph.D., Mayumi Prins, Ph.D.,
Richard Sutton, Ph.D., Paul Vespa, M.D.

Applications will be reviewed by the UCLA BIRC Admissions Committee, and
select candidates will be invited to a formal interview that will include a
tour of the facilities. During the interview process, the candidate will be
required to give a lecture to the BIRC faculty covering their current work
and outline their future interests in the field of neurotrauma.
