Proximity of Hand Tools to a 400 Unshielded Magnet

NMR Folks,

         We are planning a renovation of our NMR room to handle a new
instrument and intend to build an octagon-shaped plywood box around our
existing energized unshielded 400 magnet. The box will extend to the 25
gauss line on the flat sides.

         Will it be safe to use hand tools (drills, etc.) outside the box
up to this 25 gauss line? What about a shop vac? We will also have a
less formidable barrier at the 5 gauss line but workers may have to get
inside it on occasion.
