COMPANY: Abbott Bioresearch Center, Worcester, MA
POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position will be responsible for managing the
NMR facility in support of ongoing discovery research programs at Abbott
Bioresearch Center in Worcester, MA and includes the supervision and
guidance of a Research Associate. The position involves development and
application of modern NMR techniques to solve a variety of structural
problems encountered in drug discovery. Resource and technology
assessment and planning as well as a prominent role in the evaluation,
acquisition and implementation of new instrumentation belong to the
scope of this position to maintain and further the high standard of
analytical support at Abbott Bioresearch Center. The successful
candidate will be working in close collaboration with a
multi-disciplinary group of chemists and biologists. Efficient
communication and interaction with other corporate sites is expected.
This function provides the opportunity for major contributions to
scientific literature and conferences. The NMR group's adherence to
safety, environmental, quality, and EEO/AA standards of the Corporation,
Division and Location needs to be secured. REQUIREMENTS: This position
requires a Ph.D. in chemistry or biochemistry with 2-5 years of
postdoctoral experience in contemporary multidimensional NMR and its
application to structural studies of organic molecules, peptides and
proteins. A strong background in NMR theory and instrumentation is a
prerequisite, and experience in LC NMR is an advantage. Required is a
strong scientific background and a proven track record in drug
discovery. Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, high level
leadership and managerial skills, creativity and independent thought are
necessary. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are
imperative for interdisciplinary collaboration within project teams.
Computational skills and experience with Linux.
