gravity patches

While I had expected our supercon magnets to be relatively unaffected by
the Y2K rollover, here is a new concern.

According to an article recently published Dr. Dave Berry, gravity may
disappear in certain areas at the midnight of Dec. 31.

If this happens helium boil-off would no longer rise to the ceiling, but
would be dispersed throughout the lab and could leak through the magnet
cryostat seals, leading to magnet failure.

I would appreciate hearing from any of you who have prepared for this
possibility.
