Can be a real pain!
> 2) can you write PC and MAC compatable formats?
Yes. But it is easier to FTP the data to a PC or Mac and then make the CD
there.
> 3) Would a ZIP or JAZ drive be a better (faster, cheaper) solution?????
Faster, non permanent and more expensive are words that come to my mind.
Also how long are ZIP's (current format) really going to be around? Most
computers have CD's and these are now something of a standard. If you doubt
this then why are we all still using 70's vintage 3" disks in our PC's, I
suspect this is purely because everyone has one.

compatable

Yes, this is easier and supported by IRIX 6.3 (with patches) onwards.
By the way there has been no mentioned of using an external hardrive. Any
decent UltraSC drive should work and be n x cheaper than the SGI disks.
Virtually all our O2's and Indys use external drives here at Lund. We payed
(6 months ago) 350 USD for a 6 Gb drive ready to go (case power and cables),
now 10 Gb is the same price.
Also 'delp' the data, this saves a lot of space!
Good luck
