Another method to consider, not cheapest (cost ~ $120), assuming that you
have IRIX 6.5
(actually, earlier IRIX might work too)
would be to slap a ZIP drive onto the SGI. The IRIX software
automatically recognizes not
only the drive, but can read & write Mac and PC format. /zip
You might want to put in a script or AU program or environment variable to
make the
process easier for the user (which translates into easier for you)
The down sides:
If the user doesn't have Zip drive on their PC or Mac (but then, they can
access it via the NMR ZIP)
Downloading a directory of files take a good bit of time. A few data files
can be transfered in reasonable time.
You don't want the users to acquire data directly to Zip due to its slow access
(both due to the the drive and due to foreign file system)
Imagine the fun you'll have when the user walks up to the magnet with the
Zip disk in pocket...
