For the last 3 years, my neighbours, which reside on the 5th floor,
one level below the nmr lab, are raising the same problem EMF effect
on .... (name it). I know that there is an incredible amount of emotion
surrounding EMF and biological reactions. However, I agree with the
expert in this field who stated "...the only true biological effect
I have observed over the years is a rapid increase of the mental
problems among the general population and scientific community
unencumbered by the thought processes when exposed to Electromagnetic
Fields...".
Trying to keep our 5th floor neighbours happy we
a) bought the anti-magnetic shields for their monitors
b) moved our electronic shop to the room located just below the 500
MHz magnet. The anti-nmr neighbours are residing on the both sides
of this electronic shop.
However, during the yesterdays meeting the person from the
anti-nmr camp rigorously stated that according to his recent search
"...worldwide most of the nmr labs are located outside of the
departmental buildings in the specially designed nmr units...".
(I would love to have one).
Now is my problem and request - questions. Of course it is out
of the money range to build a special housing for the nmr facility
outside the current location or to buy the new shielded magnet. So.
The suggested solution is to move the entire nmr unit (magnet and
console) to the 7th floor where the buildings compressors, AC units,
water pumps and all the other heavy-duty vibrations making machinery
is located. Isn't it crazy idea?
The next anti-nmr battle is scheduled for the coming week. To
be better prepared for this meeting I need the statistical data -
I need your help. I would love to get from you guys the answer to
the following questions about your nmr facility:
1) Unit
a) university (college) - yes/no
b) research institute - yes/no
c) company (R&D unit) -yes/no
d) others
2) Magnet(s): 400u, 500s, ....
u- unshielded
s- shielded
3) Location
a) inside of the department, institute, etc
b) outside of the main building in the special nmr building
4) Have you ever been forced to move the nmr facility?
