The University of Utah Department of Chemistry is accepting applications for the position of NMR Laboratory Manager in the D.M. Grant NMR Center. The primary responsibilities will be to oversee and maintain operations of 6 solution NMR spectrometers and a helium recovery system within the NMR center, train new users, as well as to collaborate/assist researchers with experimental design, experimental set-up, data processing, and interpretation of multidimensional, multinuclear NMR spectral data for chemical and biological applications. In addition, the NMR Center Lab Manager will further contribute to the undergraduate and graduate education missions within the Department of Chemistry by providing support, including working with course instructors to develop experiments and protocols that accommodate teaching lab and classroom use of instrumentation within the NMR Center. It is also expected that the NMR Center Lab Manager will provide support for future grant proposals needed to maintain NMR instrumentation as well as NMR Center infrastructure operations at a state-of-the-art level. Information about the David M. Grant NMR Center can be found here: https://nmrc.utah.edu/.

Qualifications: The preferred qualifications for the position are a Ph.D. in Chemistry or related natural science or engineering field, as well as five years of practical experimental NMR experience. This includes extensive familiarity with solution NMR hardware and electronics, knowledge of cryogen system maintenance (helium liquefier as well as Varian/Agilent and Bruker cryo-probe technologies), knowledge, and maintenance of sample automation assemblies/software, and the ability to diagnose, maintain and repair solution NMR instrumentation. Top candidates for this position will also have extensive experience with UNIX/LINUX based operating systems. Basic electrical engineering skills and experience with computer programming languages are highly desirable. Knowledge of and proficiency with the use of both Varian/Agilent VnmrJ and Bruker Topspin software is also highly desired.

The anticipated start date for this position is July 1, 2021. The position will remain open until filled, but for full consideration, a cover letter, resume, and references should be received by May 15, 2021. Applications should be submitted to: https://utah.peopleadmin.com/postings/114663
