Dear AMMRL,
We are looking for a new air dryer to support our brand new 600 MHz Bruker AVIII console with a cryoprobe. This NMR is going to be frequently used for 2D NOESY on RNA samples and needs to be free of T1 noise.
Other NMRs in our facility are supported by two relatively new air dryers made by Dominck Hunter (model DAS2 and DAS4). We found them not satisfactory for the following reasons:
1) the column switch-over noise is so big and goes on every 4 minutes.
2) it is expensive to replace the maintenance kits (desiccant columns and exhaust valves must be replaced every two years and is several hundred dollars each).
3) the exhaust valves make loud clanking noise when they are not shut off properly after each switch-over cycle even though they are still within two years of life time.
4) the maintenance parts are usually shipped out form Europe and it could take many weeks if not months.
We prefer not to get another Dominck Hunter model due to above stated reasons. If you are satisfied with your air dryer's performance, especially if you know that it doesn't cause T1 noise in 2D NOESY, could you share with me the info on the model and maintenance cost, and where to obtain it?
