AMMRL: X Windows Servers for Windows 7

For decades I've been using eXcursion on my Windows PC to allow me to use UNIX-based software (Felix, XWinNMR) on my PC. The software runs on an SGI (IRIX) machine and the graphics is ported to my PC display.

Now I've been "upgraded" to a new desktop PC running windows 7. Excursion won't run under Windows 7, so we tried Xming. It doesn't run at all, just a momentary hourglass and then nothing. I'm told that there is very little information about Xming on the web. We tried building a virtual Windows XP machine within my Windows 7 machine, and we ran eXcursion but when the Felix software is started we get the message (on the Unix machine): connection to server refused.

Has anyone succeeded in getting one of these X windows servers to work on Windows 7? I know this technology is going away as the SGI machines are retiring, but there must be a lot of SGIs still out there.
