Associate Director, Macromolecular NMR Core Laboratory
Position Description: The University of Kansas has an immediate career opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced scientist to lead its Macromolecular NMR Core Laboratory. The laboratory is equipped with Bruker 800 and Varian Inova 600 MHz spectrometers and a variety of probes. It is part of a Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) in Protein Structure and Function and operates in a highly collegial and collaborative research environment. It focuses on conducting structural and dynamics studies of biomolecules in support of a diverse range of investigators and research projects associated with the COBRE and other research centers and departments. The Associate Director will work with investigators to devise appropriate strategies for NMR related projects, implement, carry out and analyze experiments on protein structure and dynamics, prepare written reports of laboratory activities for investigators, clients and funding agencies, assist and/or collaborate with clients on preparation of manuscripts and grant applications involving NMR spectroscopy, and oversee the operation and maintenance of the laboratory. Position requirements: Ph.D. or equivalent degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics or a closely related field including at least 5 years of experience in applications of biomolecular NMR. This will preferably include experience in experiment setup, collection and processing of triple resonance NMR data, assignment of spectra, biomolecular structure calculations, dynamics experiments and data analysis, NMR spectrometer administration and maintenance, use of RDC data, experience in collaborative or team-based research projects as demonstrated by publications in leading peer-reviewed journals. Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills are also essential for this position.
