AMMRL: Junction Board Short?

Hello.

I believe that we have a short in our console (Mercury) junction board
and would like to know if anyone else has encountered this problem or,
if I should be concerned that something else is wrong.

Here is what happens, for no apparent reason the console will start
beeping. Obviously, this normally means something has gone wrong and
needs attention. The first time it did this, when I moved the console
to see which red light was on, the beeping stopped. So, I did a careful
examination and could find nothing wrong. When I checked the software,
we had not lost connection to the computer, everything was functioning
just fine.

The next time it beeped, a colleague had set a book down on the console
and was not terribly gentle setting the book down. The beeping started
up again and when I moved the console to see what was wrong, the beeping
stopped and there were no red lights on. I immediately went to the
computer figuring we had lost connection, and once again, we hadn't.

I mentioned this to a service engineer who told me to try and see which
red light lit up when the beeping started. Well, every time it has
beeped and I have even slightly moved the console, the beeping stops and
the red light that does illuminate, goes off. So, this last time, and
you all will appreciate this, I climbed up on top of the desk next to
the console and hung over the back to see which light was illuminated.
The best that I can tell, it is either the RF Power Supply or the Low
Band Amp light. Problem it, is seems like I get close or bump it, and
the light goes off.

So you are probably wondering, if it goes off that easily, why not just
bump it to get it to beep? I wish it was that easy. Try as gently as I
might, I cannot get the beeping to start. It happens at random times
(day or night) with no obvious provocation.

In your experiences, do you think this is something most likely as
simple as a short or should I be concerned that something else is going
wrong? For me, I am leaning towards the short side as we have not yet
lost connection when the beeping starts and it goes off with movement.
Obvious, I will be ordering a new junction board, but before I place
that order, I just want to make certain that, in your opinion, it isn't
something larger.

Thank you in advance for your help. It is always welcome and always
appreciated.

Adrienne
