We just recently decommissioned our AMX 300 and since I knew that this
was to occur I decided to record the sound of several fid's using my home
recording studio equipment. As well, using a water sample, I recorded a
set of tempered scales by calculating the necessary offset frequencies for
each note. The goal is to patch these notes together to the tune of
Handel's Watermusic (if I can find the time!). Some of these fid sounds
are available on the web page listed below.
This was actually part of a much larger project that I was going to
announce soon anyway so I might as well do it now. I have been preparing a
set of web instruction pages on the theory and practice of nmr
spectroscopy with a bit of a tongue-in-cheek style. The project has
exploded in scope and for every item that I have included I have thought
of two more that I could add so the pages are 'under construction' and
probably will be for some time to come. There is an explanation of the how
and why of audible nmr ... a nice way to illustrate the rotating frame
idea.
A very interesting part of the project (to me at least) is the inclusion
of a standalone product operator calculator. I know that this can be done
using a Mathematica template but I decided to put together a "poor man's"
calculator. The code is sloppy, the gui interface is simple and it
currently only works under Linux but ... it works! Anyway, it is gpl'ed
and is free for downloading by anyone who is interested. I'm currently
working on a platform independent version with a (hopefully) better
looking interface and more options. Any comments/suggestions/criticisms
are, of course, welcome.
