NMR positions at Bristol Myers Squibb

We have an immediate opening for two permanent positions at
Bristol Myers Squibb in Discovery Analytical Sciences department.

Our department consists of mass spectroscopists, separation
scientists and NMR spectroscopists. We support and collaborate with
discovery chemistry, combi-chem, MAP and toxicology departments
in our company. From the two open positions one is in
Wallingford, Connecticut and the second one is in Lawrenceville,
New Jersey research sites.

The Wallingford, Connecticut position requirements are:

Preferred candidate should have either a Ph.D. with research
using NMR or MS with four years of NMR facility. The position
requires an in-depth understanding in NMR spectroscopy and a high
level of comfort with computers. Familiar with using modern
analytical instrumentation, including the use of NMR, HPLC and MS
for the characterization of organic and biological molecules.
Excellent skills on utilization of computer based applications, data
processing software, data management, programming (unix scripts
etc) and administration is required. A strong background in 1D
and 2D-NMR data acquisition and interpretation, medicinal
and organic chemistry is preferred. The successful candidate will
combine a variety of technical skills to successfully solve problems
in a multi-disciplinary team. The individual must also possess
strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills. The
individual must also be willing to work in a team-oriented
environment and be motivated to learn.

Provide support for the needs of drug discovery scientists in
applying NMR, LC-NMR-MS and Flow-NMR for purity assessment
and structure characterization of synthetic compounds,
metabolites, degradents and impurities. Participates in high throughput NMR
and other analytical method development team for combichem
library synthesis. Provides support for NMR instrument maintenance,
upgrade and user training in Wallingford. Works with other
analytical scientists in Discovery Analytical Sciences, such as mass
spectroscopists and separation chemists, in targeted problems
solving. Keeps abreast with the current advances in NMR
spectroscopy, automation and related technologies and applies new
technologies and methods for increasing sensitivity, quality and
throughput of NMR experiments and for accelerating research and
improving the quality of drug candidates. Generates reports for
collaborators and contributes to departmental communications. .

The Lawrenceville, NJ position requirements are:

The successful candidate should have a Ph.D with two years of
post-doctoral experience or Ph. D. with 4 to 6 years of
pharmaceutical industrial experience in the area of NMR,
instrumentation (Bruker and Varian), NMR pulse programming and SGI
IRIX and SUN SOS operating systems. Candidate should have
programming experience with recent programming languages such
as Perl, and JAVA or other relevant programming languages used in
the NMR area. Candidate should have hands-on experience in
state of art NMR instrumentation, hyphenated NMR such as flow-NMR
and LC-NMR-MS and applications of high resolution
magic angle spinning for structure determination of small
molecules. The candidate should be knowledgeable in the latest application
of NMR in the area of biofluid and tissue analysis. The
candidate should posses strong oral, written and presentation skills,
self-motivated, independent and willing to work in team oriented environment.

Candidate will be responsible to participate in various
initiatives on efficacy and toxicity biomarker detection and identification in
biofluids and tissues by using NMR. In addition to the biomarker
initiative, other major responsibilities include small molecule
structure determination, metabolite identification using LC-NMR
and LC-NMR-MS, incorporate new NMR experiments for
structure determination, write software for data manipulations
and archival and find novel ways of NMR application in drug
discovery process. Responsible for hardware and software trouble
shooting, pulse sequence programming and Unix and SOS shell
scripting. The candidate will be expected to interact with and
assist drug discovery chemists with the use of NMR instruments and
data analysis and to collaborate effectively with NMR and other
colleagues within the analytical department and throughout the
organization, publish and present scientific work within BMS and
outside at scientific conferences and meetings.
