Low temperature elephant trunks...

Dear All,

I'm in the process of starting with some low temperature experiments
with our Avance 400, but would need parts to do it. I have a BCU-05
which will get me down to ~0 oC, but would need to go to ~ -70 oC. In
the past I used to do this with a dewar of lN2, a resistor inside,
and I would crank the power into it (with something as elaborated as
a Variac) to get cold N2 that would go into the VT-probe. Problem:
When I did this (>5 years ago in Texas), we had all the vacuum-glass
sleeves that connected the dewar to the probe - Expensive, fragile,
and cumbersome. Have any of you found a better replacement for these
things? I think I saw an 'elephant trunk'-type connection somewhere,
but I don't know if this will go low enough. Also, any suggestions as
to how to rig the whole thing up would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Guillermo
