Dear AMMRL Members,

I have a couple of questions that I would like to solicit feedback on from
our august group.

First: one of my labs is located in space that is under the purview of
another department. Since this space is locked all the time, cryogen
deliveries are becoming a problem, since someone from this other department
has to be present when the truck arrives to allow the driver to drop off
and pick up dewars. Since this space has a covered loading dock, I
wondered if it would be feasible for us to build a small holding pen on the
loading dock. This pen would have a lock that both the cryogen company and
my staff would have the key to. Thus, the driver could just drop off and
pick up tanks to and from this pen when making deliveries.

Here are my questions for the group:
1. Does anyone know of such an arrangement in use anywhere?
2. Does anyone have any comments on such an arrangement?

Second: we have been discussing the possibility of building a Faraday cage
around one of our existing systems, as well as having such shielding
installed in a potential NMR lab in a new building.

My questions here are:
1. Does the shielding get installed on or below the floor, or is the
existing reebar in the concrete floor used (assuming that the shielding is
connected to the reebar)?
2. How does one go about estimating the cost of a Faraday cage?

If interest warrants I can post a summary.

Thank you all in advance for your input.

Regards,

        John
