My $0.02 - I am under pressure to subsidize my lab with outside users'
money. However, I have an oral agreement with Gary Turner at Spectral Data
Services in Champaign that I will keep my rates above his on a $/MHz-hr
basis. Recently another commercial contract NMR provider started business
in Decatur, IL and I looked up those rates, which were even higher, so I
raised my rates without even negotiating the matter.
Bottom line: I don't think I am using the taxpayers' stuff to compete
unfairly with the private sector. I can prove it, too: no customers!
