Dear AMMRL,

We had very little interest from this group in our open lab manager position, which tells me that I did a terrible job explaining why it is a great job and MIT is a great place to work. I’ll try again…

The DCIF at MIT has an immediate opening for an individual who would like to be a lab manager/operations manager in a large, fast-paced user facility. The lab has 7 spectrometers in the 400-600MHz range, and includes 3 Prodigy probes (at 400 and 500 MHz) and one QCI-F cryoprobe (at 600 MHz). All of our instruments have sample changers, and are configured to allow for a wide range of chemist, biochemist, and engineering needs and skills. Our automation systems typically run between 400 and 800 experiments each week, and it’s not just 1D proton and carbon! We even do a little bit of solids.

The great thing about this lab is that the users are enthusiastic, smart, and love to learn new things about NMR. Most arrive with a minimum of experience, and the DCIF staff (there are four of us) spend a significant amount of time helping our users to design NMR experiments to apply to their research area. Some of this involves instrument training, which is fairly streamlined and doesn’t take a significant part of our day. Our instruments are relatively new, so maintenance needs are modest as well.

MIT pays well for an academic institution, has good benefits, and staff are typically pretty happy to work here - posting #22307 can be viewed at https://hr.mit.edu/careers <https://hr.mit.edu/careers> if you want to apply. This is a great job for someone who thinks that our role as spectroscopists is to share our expertise with the next generation of scientists!
