Thanks to many colleagues who provided information regarding Bruker’s CryoPlatform Preventive Maintenance Service issue.
Bruker’s CryoPlatform utilize Sumitomo’s helium compressor and cold head, which is recommended to be replaced/serviced every 10K hours (~13.7 months) of operation (CP10K Service). Bruker BioSpin does offer different “annual” service contract packages for the CryoPlatform, from basic Annual Preventive Service Agreement to Complete Maintenance Agreement. Bruker BioSpin used to provide “annual” PM service under those service agreements within the coverage period of the Service Agreement, even though it could be less than 13.7 months from previous year’s PM service.
Several colleagues indicated that they had dropped the PM service contracts since Bruker BioSpin drastically increased the service contract price past few years, in addition to lengthen the “annual” PM service interval to 14 – 15 months. Instead of service contract, many colleagues would just issue purchase orders, and schedule PM services every 14 – 24 months depends on the budget situation. If “annual” PM service contracts are renewed every year, and actual PM services are scheduled every 14 months, over the course of six years, one could have 6 annual PM service contracts (valid for 12 months each) with 5 PM services. What a deal!!
One general consensus for Bruker’s lengthening the CryoPlatform PM service interval could be due to shortage of service engineers to meet the “annual” PM contract commitments.
Kind Regards,
Dee

Subject: AMMRL: CryoPlatform Preventive Maintenance Service
If you have Annual maintenance Contract with Bruker BioSpin, for CryoProbe and CryoPlatform, would you mind letting me know the interval between two most recent Annual Preventive Maintenance Services, including overnight cold trapping, replacing the cold head, the membranes of the roughing pump, flush the system, and leak check on the CryoPlatform system you have. We have been told by Bruker BioSpin that the current standard interval between two PM services would be 14 – 15 months, no matter how early you made the scheduling request. The service could well be outside the Service contract’s one year coverage period.

Dee
