NMR Center Manager Position, Lewis E Kay, University of Toronto Medical Sciences NMR Facility
An NMR manager position is available to oversee a large NMR facility consisting of 9 high field NMR magnets, including 1 GHz, 1x800 MHz, 1x700 MHz, 3x600 MHz, and 3x500 MHz spectrometers. An array of instrumentation, ranging from Varian systems that are in excess of two decades old, to Agilent and Bruker instruments equipped with cryo-probes are in place. The successful candidate will be responsible for cryogen fills (both helium and nitrogen), general maintenance of spectrometers, troubleshooting instruments when failures occur and will take the lead in interacting with vendors and other suppliers to ensure a smooth operation of the facility. He/She will also be responsible for ordering supplies for the NMR center and maintaining it in top working condition.
A significant portion of the managers time could involve interacting with students and postdocs on a variety of different projects or could involve projects that are of particular interest to the individual.
Priority will be given to individuals with experience managing NMR centers or working with NMR vendors. Knowledge of spectrometer hardware and software is critical, and the ability to work with diverse individuals from multiple groups is important. Preference will also be given to an individual with experience in biological NMR although this is less important than the other criteria.
The successful candidate will report to Lewis E Kay. The start-time is negotiable but preferably no later than May 1, 2021.
Please send a CV and cover-letter indicating explaining your qualifications to:
