Many of you asked me to share what I found out from this enquiry. I would love to post a summary, but with all of the vendors discussed in the responses here listening on the list, I do not feel it is appropriate to do so under these conditions. IMO it will just start an argument and poison both present and future vendor relationships, so please consider this thread dead. It was based on misinformation to begin with, so for that I apologise.
Cheers, -Hirsch

Subject: AMMRL: Aftermarket Agilent Service
Hey Spinlanders!
We have a neighbor with a relatively new Agilent system. They have been informed that Agilent will drop their service contract at the end of this year. Has anyone already gone to aftermarket providers for Aglient service contracts? Which companies are realistically stepping in to handle Agilent systems? Would you recommend your service contractor? Why or why not?
Thank you, -Hirsch
