Hi all,

It's time to plan for the 2010 AMMRL gathering at ENC, which will be
in Daytona Beach, FL this year.

It doesn't look like I'll be going this year, but Marc ter Horst from
UNC Chapel Hill will be there and has stepped up to help, so he and I
would like to put together a program for the meeting.

The preliminary theme we propose is "Adjusting to a Climate of Reduced
Support."

Many NMR facilities have had budgets slashed this year, and perhaps in
the year or so before. This has affected staffing levels, salaries,
equipment purchases, and other aspects of facility operation. How are
facilities coping successfully? Merging Chemistry and biomolecular
facilities? Laying off technical staff? Laying off Ph.D. staff? How to
reconcile stimulus-funded equipment acquisitions with reduced or flat
support for normal operations?

In the last couple of years, we've had a format where we've introduced
different topics for discussion, broken out into working groups to
talk about them, then reconvened to summarize findings for the group.
If this topic is sufficiently interesting to everyone, perhaps it
would be better to have a different format, like a panel discussion in
which three to five people introduce particular topics related to the
theme, then commence with general discussion amongst everyone.

Please let us know if you'd like to give a presentation at the
meeting. Also let us know if you'd rather see a different theme or
format.

Thanks.

- Josh
