AMMRL: RF shielded NMR room

Our Varian Inova 500 will soon share the basement space of our Inova
600. Our Inova 400 will follow once the 500 is up and running. We were
going to move these machines in a few months so we pushed the move
forward because of the local HDTV signal(Ch 18) interference at 500MHz.
This will solve all of our HDTV issues for the next couple of years.
The current plans require us to eventually move the instruments to a new
building because the building above the basement will be torn down. The
question now arises as to how can we shield the instruments in the new
space which will not be a deep basement surrounded by bedrock.

Does anyone have experience with trying to shield NMR machines from
stray RF? My understanding is that everything has to be shielded to
prevent the unwanted signals from leaking in - the power lines, the
ductwork, the doors, you name it. And it will be very expensive though
not so expensive as new machines would be.

Thanks,

Sara
