Chemical Shift thermometers...

Hey gang,

We've been doing a lot of VT experiments at 60/80 oC lately. My student
decided to calibrate the probe's thermocouple with the glycerol/DMSO-d6
(80/20) chemical shift thermometer, and for that he used stuff out of
bottles (i.e., not dry glycerol or dry DMSO-d6). We did a couple of
runs (60 and 80 oC), and noticed that our temperatures are off by quite
a bit ('60' is actually 65, and '80' is actually 90, pretty linear).
Since this was quite a change, I was wondering if having 'wet' solvents
will affect the measurement. If so, anyone knows of an easy way of
drying these things which won't involve distillation from Na or CaH? I
know I can just buy the stuff from CIL and be done with it, but I want
to save 65 bucks, and it would be nice if my student could do this...

Guillermo
