Several of our most esteemed colleagues responded to my question. Unanimous
opinion is that service contracts are mandatory, not optional, and that you
would want to have a full contract anyway because lots of things break with
regularity with cryoprobe systems.
Even with the service contracts, these cold probes seem also to place
considerable extra burden on the NMR Facility staff.
