Institute of Materials Science
The Institute of Materials Science (IMS) at the University of Connecticut
(UConn) invites applications for the position of Academic Assistant 3 or
4. The successful applicant will maintain and operate the nuclear
magnetic resonance facility within the Institute and assist students,
faculty and staff researchers with NMR related research problems. In
addition, he/she will assist the Director of the NMR Facility (who is a
member of the IMS faculty) in raising funds to acquire new NMR related
equipment.
The IMS is an independent multi-disciplinary research facility within
UConn, providing campus-wide access to state-of-the-art research
equipment. Currently, it operates two Bruker AVANCE liquid/solid state
spectrometers (one 500 Mhz and one 300 Mhz), and a Chemagnetics
CMX-300 solid-state instrument.
Applicants for this exciting opportunity should have a PhD in physical or
analytical chemistry, or a related field, and at least two years of in-depth
experience with modern NMR equipment. Exceptionally qualified
candidates with an MS degree and extensive experience will also be
considered. In addition, good interpersonal skills and the ability to
interact closely with a diverse research community are very important.
This is a one-year position subject to annual renewal.
