Esteemed Colleagues,

The current incarnation of the Los Angeles Area Magnet Experts (LAME) has
been broadened to encompass all Southern California Users of Magnets
(SCUM). Our next meeting will be on Saturday, July 31st, at the
University of California at Irvine, where we will be hosted by Dr. A.J.
Shaka. (This should be a good warm-up for those headed to the Rocky
Mountain Conference starting 8/1.)

The exact schedule has not yet been determined, but three speakers are
already in place:

Haitao Hu, of UCI, will speak on composite field gradients and high-power
semi-selective pulses.
Prof. Vladimir Mandelshtam will discuss aspects of the Filter
Diagonalization Method and some applications to NMR.
Dr. Albert Thomas of UCLA will give a talk about doing COSY's on brain
voxels.

If you are interested in participating either as a speaker or as an
attendee, please contact myself (pwheeler@isisph.com), or other members of
the steering committee, Jane Strouse (strousej@chem.ucla.edu) and Paul Shin
(alchemy@oxy.edu). This is an excellent opportunity to speak to an
inquisitive, knowledgeable audience in an informal setting. There is no
fee for participation.

Please pass this message on to anyone else who would be interested.

Yours,

Patrick
