Thanks for all responses!
I haven't try any of them yet!
Thanks!

Letitia Yao <yao@chem.umn.edu>:

For 1 liter of minimal media:

1.50g sodium acetate
1.50g succinic acid
0.85g NaOH
10.50g K2HPO4

add all above to 900ml of Mili-Q water, drop in a stirring bar and
autoclave

Cool to 50 C and add

0.50g adenine
0.65g guanosine
0.20g thymine
0.50g uracil

Keep it warm while stirring

Cool to 25 C, keep stirring and add

4ml 1M MgSO4
1ml 0.01M FeCl3
125microL 1M CaCl2
50mg thiamine
1mg biotin
50mg niacin
6.5 microL ZnSO4

add just before use

100mL of 20% glucose
1g NH4Cl labeled

Check pH and adjust it to 7. Sterile filter.

We use methionine deficient media (RPMI) supplied by Sigma for the
labelling of proteins in monocytes by S35-methionine and cysteine
(bought from ICN)

I have never used commercial products- it depends on what you need to
label, what you are growing in, and how good your yield is. I have
always used e. coli, and had a reasonable yield of product from
minimal medium. In this case you can stick to minimal medium and add
labelled NH4Cl and glucose as necessary. You would get
better yield (ususally about double) from rich medium but whether
this is cost effective i am not sure. Let me know about your otehr
replies. Good luck,

one of the cheapest companies delivering a quite large variety of growth

media for producing isotopically labeled proteins on the market is
Martek Biosciences Corp. The address is: Martek Biosciences Corp., 6480
Dobbin Road, Columbia, MD 21045, USA, tel. 1-800-338-9959, (410)
740-0081 x 140, fax (410) 740-2985,
e-mail: sibs@clark.net , web site: http://www.martekbio.com.
They are really very nice and flexible and they always provide their
customers with a testing samples (not labeled) for free to try wheather
your bacteria can digest it.

All the best
