"Homospoil" pulses

When I used a Varian VXR-300S for a short time before, I noticed that
there was a parameter for controlling "homospoil" pulses. According to
the manual, "Homospoil is a process by which the homogeneity is
temporarily made very bad ("spoiled") to cause any transverse
magnetizations present at that time to decay rapidly to zero".

This feature is what I need now. But as life would have it, I am no
longer working with a Varian, so I need to know how these "homospoil"
pulses are implemented, so I can write my own pulse sequence for it (or
does it require special hardware?). Can anyone out there give me a clue?
