Kenneth,

      Looong ago, I did ESR at Oak Ridge. We had one X-band cavity that
showed a huge baseline offset at low fields that turned out to be due to
nickel. The guy in the shop had nickel-plated (ferromagnetic!) his lovely
work.

      This signal needed no sample, was proporitional to the modulation
amplitude, and went away (more or less) by the time we reached 3300 Gauss.
