Dear all,
Many thanks to all who answered my question concerning the right click
function in xwinplot window. I have learned that for the right click
function to work in the xwinplot we must turn off the Num Lock key.
This problem was new to us. We don't see such problem with our two
SGI/Unix systems running xwinnmr 2.6 and 3.0. Neither do we see this
problem with our PC/Windows 2000 runnung xwinnmr 3.0. Please see the
summary below.
Thanks again!
Wei

> Subject: right mouse click in xwinplot
Dear all,
We just installed Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS 3.0 / xwinnmr 3.6 on a new
DELL computer with an optical mouse and USB connection. Since "edg" and
"view" no longer exist all plotting must be done in xwinplot window.
The problem we see so far is with the right mouse click to select an
object and menu. This function quits working frequently and we must log
out and log back in to get the right click to work. Any of you have the
same problem?
Thanks,
Wei

Summary:
I have not seen this exact problem, but I recall that XWINPLOT had an
issue with the Num Lock key: the function of the right click button
changed depending upon whether Num Lock was on or off.
Good luck,

I presume that this does not affect any other programs, only xwinplot
shows the problem, right? If the Numlock key is pressed, right-clicks andcontrol-key shortcuts (CTRL-p, etc.)do not work. This is an old xwinplot
oddity.
If you need a way to disable the numlock key in X, you can try to add a line
to .Xmodmap in the home directory:
keysym Num_Lock
Hope this helps,
Rudi
In the set-up you describe, the right-mouse-click will only work if
NUMLOCK is not on. (It is not clear to me why the NUMLOCK and the
right-mouse-button-click are mutually exclusive, but simply turning
NUMLOCK off will restore functionality of the right mouse button in
XWinPlot Editor.)
Hope this helps.

Something to look at.......
Is the Num-Lock key in use on the keyboard?
On an SGI O2, I find that if the Num-Lock key has been turned on, then
xwinplot ignores mouse-3. It may possibly be the same case for the Linux xwinnmr.

You probably have had replies already to your 'problem'. The 'num lock'
key toggles the right mouse select function. You should check that 'num
lock' key is 'off' to get full functionality in xwin 3.5/3.6. Good luck
with xwinplot.....

I have come across this type of problem with XWINNMR3.5/Linux7.1 on an
HP1100 computer. The problem was traced to the NumLock key; XWINNMR
was designed to be used without the NumLock key on. Perhaps this helps.

Bill
This is a known bug in Xwinplot regarding the numlock key. If the
numlock is on, the right mouse click will not allow you edit the
spectrum.
