AMMRL: helium cost summary

Cryogen consumers:

Clearly, helium costs are near and dear to us- I received 50 replies.
The short summary is:

costs vary (a lot!)
costs are going up
there appears to be no reason behind the costs, although large
purchases, long term contracts, and a good purchasing department all help
some users have had their allotment of helium reduced- to 80% of former
deliveries.
many users report increases (either actual or projected) this year


Summary by geographic area: (note, number is the cost in dollars per liter)

Northern California and Pacific Northwest, and Pacific:
6.50-12 with one at 33.78

Southern California:
5-10 with one (industrial) at 22

Southwest and Mountain west:
8-16.50

Texas and north:
6-7 (I guess it does pay to be close to the gas field!)

Midwest:
6.5- 11 with one at 20

South:
5.75-15

Mid-Atlantic and north:
6.5-15

Canada ranged from 7.59-11 CAD
Europe ranged from 5-9 euros

New Zealand is about 44 USD
