Hello AMMRLers-
We are scheduled to move our two Varian Instruments here at Furman
University to a new location next month. We've contracted out for the
moving of our Inova 500 MHz console, but we also have an old VXR300 with
R2D2 magnet, which presents its own unique set of challenges.
We've been cold pumping this magnet now for several years, and we fear
that if we were to deenergize the magnet, we'd never get it to come back
up again. Therefore, the decision has been made to top it off with LHe and
LN2, do a long cold pump, and move it energized. Only problem is that
we're moving from the first floor to the second!
Can anyone offer their advice, based on your own experience, as to "dos"
and "don'ts" for the move? I'm particularly interested in whether you can
successfully place the magnet in an passenger elevator while its alive -
we're worried about it getting stuck to the door, but if it can be done,
it would be much easier than having four strong guys carry it upstairs!
I have the computer/console end all covered, but it is moving the magnet
itself that presents the most challenges.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts!
Thank you,
David Sibley
