We are looking to add an NMR specialist who has experience using ACD
software for structure elucidation to our drug discvovery group in
California. Could you pass this information on to any of your users who
you think might be qualified and interested.
We are a part of American BioScience, Inc. (ABI) which is a privately
held pharmaceutical company focused on drug discovery and development.
ABI is also a majority owner of American Pharmaceutical Partners (APP),
which manufactures and markets injectable products for oncology,
antiinfectives and critical care applications. You may have heard of
the companies in relation to the commercial release earlier this year of
Abraxane (nanoparticle albumin bound paclitaxel). APP has a market cap
of about 3 billion dollars. ABI is currently beginning a major
expansion of its research, especially in the area of drug discovery.
The group I look after currently has a strong emphasis on drug discovery
from microbial natural products as a source of chemical diversity. A
critical component of our discovery process is the rapid and efficient
recognition of known compounds that show activity in our screens, and
the structure elucidation of novel compounds. NMR and Mass Spec are key
analytical tools in this process, and we are often dealing with samples
where the amount of compound is limited. For NMR we have a Varian Inova
500 equipped with a Protasis capillary probe that enables good 2-D
experiments with less than 100 micrograms of material. We already have
a Natural Product Chemist who performs NMR analyses, but we would now
like to strengthen the group by adding an NMR specialist who has
experience with ACD software, preferably including Structure
Elucidator. Depending on experience, the successful candidate would
play a major role in the structure determination of novel drug leads,
metabolites and degradation products using NMR and MS data, reference
database such as AntiBase, and software tools from ACD Labs.
Our labs are located in Auburn, which is East of Sacramento on I-80 in
the Sierra foothills on the way to Lake Tahoe. It is a very desirable
location with easy access to the San Francisco Bay Area as well as Lake
Tahoe and the Sierra in general. The cost of living and housing is
considerably less than the San Francisco Bay area or San Diego.
If you are interested in considering this opportunity further, please
give me a call or send me an e-mail with your cv and we can talk some more.
I look forward to hearing from you.
