I have a Varian XL-300 spectrometer (1983) with a 5 mm broadband and
a 5 mm proton selective probe. The proton probe gives very high
quality spectra. The broadband probe gives very high quality 13C,
31P, 29Si etc.. spectra but abosolutely horrible proton spectra from
the decoupler coil. I suspect this is due to the very large
decoupler coil which was designed for noise decoupling rather than
the smaller coils used these days for multiple pulse decoupling. I
would like to get a 5 mm broadband probe for a reasonable price that
would do a decent job (lineshape) for protons. Is there anyone out
there with such a probe for an R2D2 magnet of vintage later than 1985
or so who would be willing to make a deal? I have already tried the
used equipment dealers.
