Room temp. sensor/computer interface...

Physical Plant folks were here last week fiddl'n with various heat and
water systems. As you all have experienced, I had no prior info they'd
be here so I found out about their foray the hard way. They shut off
the water for some time which tripped my NMR lab's heat pump. I came in
the next morning to an 85 degree lab, local thermostat alarm blaring
away.

Anyone know of a temperature sensor I can interface with the unix
console so I can monitor the room's temp. remotely and have it alert me
via email if limits are exceeded?
