Hello All,
We have a 600 MHz Bruker Avance III from about 2008. The Solid State NMR
capability has not been used on this system since about 2011., The MAS II
Controller was off when I arrived here in 2014 and has been off since
then. When I powered it up last week the display lit up green but there is
no information on it, it is lit but it is blank. When I try to run CF and
define the MAS controller as tty04 as was consistent with an old system
configuration file I found on the PC, the PC does not find the controller.
This device contains its own microprocessor so I am expecting that the
firmware and boot procedure would be on-board and non-volatile and should
display at least some information when it is turned on. There are two
batteries in the chassis but I am sure they are primarily there to reduce
the risk of a rotor crash in the case of a power failure. They are
discharged of course (after 10 years) but I would not think that is the
issue. I verified that all of the cables are well seated and that the
power supply seemed to be functioning.
1. Has anyone left their MAS II controller off for a few years and had
it power up as normal?
2. Can someone please let me know what they see on the MAS II unit's
display when it powers up?
3. Is tty04 the port your MAS is attached to? (As best as I can tell
the system thinks "tty04" is the identity of the port on our IPSO which is
actually labeled tty1.)
I suspect that it needs to be returned for service but I am just trying to
be sure that I have been thorough with my diagnostics.
I will post a summary in a few days with all identifications removed.
Regards,
Joe
