Hello Again Everyone-
As always, I had many very excellent responses to my query. The short
answer is that, yes, TopSpin 1.3 can be run on an OS more up to date
than Windows XP. It does not appear that it will run on any other
version of Windows (with some caveats), but it will run on a variety of
Linux OSs:
- most commonly CentOS 5.x; (not the most recent CentOS release, but quite
a bit more up-to-date than Windows XP).
- not as commonly CentOS 7.x; it appears to be a bit of a project to get
that to work, and there could definitely be issues.
- a few users of RedHat 3.x and 4.x (there might be some question as to
whether these are more up-to-date than Windows XP).
Note that not all spectrometers running TopSpin 1.3 can function with
Linux installed - mostly it appears to depend on the ECL of the CCU
board (for CCU10, ECL 06 or 22).
There is an issue in switching OS’s in that the existing Bruker
TopSpin license will not work for the new version of TopSpin required,
requiring the purchase of a new software license (unless the
spectrometer service license is used).
