Solid-State NMR Postdoctoral Position, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (Richland, WA, U.S.)
Job requisition # 302850
a. Establishment of new experimental capabilities utilizing solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (SSNMR).
b. Application of preexisting and novel capabilities to investigate and to understand the detailed molecular structure, dynamics, and interactions of both bulk and surface chemical species of samples relevant to geochemistry (including radiological samples) e.g. minerals and soils.
c. Highly desired to have a working knowledge of computational chemistry using Gaussian, NWChem, ADF, Gamess, VASP, CASTEP, or similar software packages to couple NMR experimental data to theoretical results obtained from computations. Experience with SIMPSON a plus.
Qualifications / Skills / Training Necessary for the Position:
Candidates must have received a PhD in chemistry, physics, or related area in the past five years from an accredited college or university, or top-notched foreign university/research institute, and have a strong background in solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (SSNMR), and especially in the characterization of inorganic materials containing quadrupolar nuclei. Must be able to trouble-shoot hardware and software problems as they relate to SSNMR (both Bruker and Agilent/Varian systems). Familiarity with computational chemistry software for calculating NMR chemical shielding tensors, EFG, and NBO analysis is highly desired. Functional literacy with Mathematica, Matlab, Octave, Simpson, or similar is also highly desired.
