Hello All:
I am new to this community and fairly new to NMR management in general. I inherited a Varian Gemini 2300 which runs off an Sun Microsystems Ultra5 with Solaris. I had to install a new 1H transmitter board the other day, once I did that I was having trouble with the lock signal (very erratic but not drifting). It was suggested to me that this could just be a communication issue from the console to the computer and to check all connections in the console and reboot the Sun. I did that and while the system was starting back up I saw the message "No response from ethernet network--cable down." |looked this up in the manuals and found a troubleshooting section to check if the ethernet is working properly. I logged in as root, and entered the following commands:
varian# cat /etc/hostname.1e0
then it said "file not found" so I typed
varian# cd /etc
varian# vi hostname.1e0
varian# vi hosts
then the computer screen completly locked up. I cannot do anything except move my mouse around the screen (but I cannot click on anything)!! I am very new to the sun system and our IT refuse to touch the sun system. I know that these systems do not like to be started and stopped a lot but I dont know what to do... is there a way to safely restart or fix this?
Thanks!!
Briana
