A quick idea of what SFU offers is 2 parts (server side & client side). On the client side (Windows PC) you can access NFS shares, UNIX command line utilities under the command prompt. On server side (Windows server) you can create NFS server shares, act as NIS master so that the UNIX machines, Linux, Sun OS .... can authenticate to active directory.

I am unfamiliar with this topic, but very intrigued. Is it possible to give
some concrete examples what this product may be useful for? For example, my
PC is behind a router with dynamic IP, whereas the spectrometers have static
IP. It seems impossible to mount the window share on the spectrometer
hosts. Is it still possible to make use of this subsystem somehow on my
Windows PC? Thanks.
