AMMRL Members,
The attached notice is from a friend of mine. Please respond to him if you are interested in the described postdoc position. His email address and phone number are given at the end of the notice.
POSTDOCTORAL POSITION AVAILABLE
A postdoctoral position within my research group will be available
within a few months. Work will include using nmr (proton and carbon)
to study hydrocarbon oxidative decomposition. We will examine in
detail a series of natural and synthetic hydrocarbons, identify
certain structural features and follow the chemical transformations
of these structures as a function of thermal treatment and oxidation.
Additional complementary characterization methods will be used such
as infrared, mass spectroscopy, pyrolysis gc/ms, and thin film
micro-oxidation techniques.
The project currently is planned for one year, with the potential to
extend for a second or third year. It is expected that the results
of these studies will be presented at national meetings and result in
publications in refereed journals.
I am looking for a self-starter, innovative organic chemist with
strong background in nmr and at least some of the other
above-mentioned techniques.
Penn State has a world class reputation in energy research,
chemistry, chemical engineering and related fields. This will be an
excellent opportunity for a student to work independently (with
support and input from me) on the fundamental and practical study of
hydrocarbon oxidation. With sufficient results we will attempt to
model the kinetics of the various processes involved during thin film
(non-diffusion controlled) oxidation.
The nmr research would be performed using a Bruker AMX 360MHz wide
bore instrument.
I can be reached by email at lrudnick_at_psu.edu or by phone at 814-865-2490.
